More experiences. More connection. More reasons to get outside.
Off We Grow gives young people opportunities to get outside, try new things, and spend time alongside screened adult mentors and volunteers who are ready to share their time, encouragement, interests, and outdoor knowledge.
Activities might include fishing, exploring a local park, walking a trail, camping, learning outdoor skills, discovering wildlife and conservation, joining an Off We Grow adventure, or simply trying something completely new.
No outdoor experience is required. Curiosity is enough.
Mentoring with Off We Grow is group-based, not one-on-one.
Young people participate in outdoor activities and adventures alongside other kids and multiple screened adults. We believe meaningful mentoring relationships can grow naturally when young people and positive adults spend time together, share experiences, learn from one another, and keep showing up.
There is no individual mentor assigned to your child, and young people are not paired with mentors for one-on-one outings.
The goal is simple: surround young people with positive, encouraging adults while giving them more opportunities to get outside, build confidence, learn new skills, discover new interests, make connections, and have fun.
Every Off We Grow mentor and volunteer who works directly with young people completes an application, screening process, reference checks, required background checks, and orientation before being approved to participate.
Adults receive clear expectations and guidance around youth safety, appropriate boundaries, communication, and participation in Off We Grow activities.
Parents and guardians are an important part of the process. You'll receive information about activities, expectations, safety procedures, and what your child's participation will look like before they take part.
Off We Grow activities are designed around shared experiences with multiple screened adults and participating youth—not private one-on-one mentoring.
Off We Grow is for young people who could benefit from more connection, encouragement, outdoor experiences, or simply the opportunity to try something new.
Your child doesn't need to be struggling, have a diagnosis, come from a particular background, or already consider themselves an outdoors kid.
They don't need to know how to fish, hike, camp, paddle, or explore the outdoors. They don't need to own fishing equipment, camping gear, or other outdoor supplies just to participate.
Some kids may already love being outside. Others may have barely had the opportunity to experience it.
Both belong here.
A parent or legal guardian must complete the application for their child.
Tell us a little about your child—their personality, interests, comfort level, activities they might like to try, and anything else that will help us create positive experiences for them.
Submitting an application does not guarantee immediate participation in an activity. Opportunities may depend on program capacity, available mentors and volunteers, activity requirements, age ranges, and available space.
